Booking, payment and cancellation

Autalo helps you compare rental cars. The booking itself is processed by our booking partner, and the car comes from a local rental company. This page explains who does what, and where to find the exact conditions of your car.

How booking works on Autalo

  1. Autalo shows cars, prices and conditions in the search on our pages, and publishes guides based on that data. We don't own cars and we are not a rental company.
  2. The booking partner, Localrent, runs the search and booking system: it takes your booking and the online prepayment, sends your confirmation and voucher, and provides booking support.
  3. The rental company provides the car. Your rental contract is with this company, and you sign it at pick-up.

The name of the rental company and the conditions of your car are shown in the offer and in your confirmation.

Prices and what is included

Prices in the search are for the dates and pick-up place you entered and come from the booking partner's live data. Before you confirm, the booking form shows the full price, what is included (insurance, mileage, extras) and what is paid when. That final summary is what counts.

Prices can change until you confirm. Extras such as a child seat, an additional driver, delivery to your address or crossing a border are shown as options with their price, or listed in the car's conditions.

Payment: online and at pick-up

For most cars you pay only part of the price online when you book, usually about 15–20% of the total. This prepayment goes to the booking partner and secures the car. The rest is paid to the rental company at pick-up.

Whether the rest can be paid in cash, by card or both is shown in the car's conditions. Many cars don't require a credit card, but some do: check before you book. Autalo never takes payments.

Deposit

Many rental companies ask for a refundable security deposit at pick-up, blocked on a card or paid in cash; some cars have no deposit at all. The amount and the way it is taken are shown in the offer. The deposit is returned by the rental company after the car is returned in the agreed condition.

Insurance and excess

Basic insurance is usually included in the price. It normally comes with an excess (deductible): the maximum you pay if the car is damaged. Some offers include full cover with a low or zero excess, or let you add it.

Standard insurance often excludes damage to wheels, the undercarriage, the windscreen and the interior, and it does not apply to deliberate damage or driving on routes the rental company does not allow. The exact cover of your car is in its conditions and in the rental contract; they take precedence over any general description here.

Cancellation and changes

Cancellation rules depend on the country and the offer, and they are shown before you book. As an example, the booking partner's terms for Georgia say:

  • a standard booking can be cancelled free of charge up to 7 days before pick-up (30 days for luxury cars);
  • offers marked Free cancellation can be cancelled free of charge up to 24 hours before pick-up;
  • after that, or if you don't show up without notice, the prepayment is kept.

To cancel or change a booking, use the link or contact in your confirmation email. Autalo cannot cancel or change bookings.

Refunds

Refunds of the prepayment are made by the booking partner to the card you paid with. Under its terms for Georgia, a refund is issued within 14 days, minus a payment service fee of 6%. Refunds of amounts paid at pick-up, and of deposits, are made by the rental company. If a refund is late, contact the booking support in your confirmation.

Documents and driver requirements

  • A valid national driving licence, printed in Latin letters and valid until the end of the rental. An International Driving Permit is recommended and required in some countries.
  • Your passport or ID.
  • A payment card in the main driver's name if the offer requires one.
  • Minimum age and driving experience depend on the car and are shown in its conditions.

At pick-up and return

Your voucher contains the address or meeting point, the time and the rental company's phone number. At pick-up, check the car with the company's staff, make sure existing damage is noted in the contract, and take photos. Return the car at the agreed time and place, with fuel as agreed in the offer.

Problems and complaints

  1. During the rental, contact the rental company first: questions about the car's condition and the service are theirs to solve.
  2. For the booking itself (payment, cancellation, refund), contact the booking support in your confirmation.
  3. If you are stuck or unsure whom to ask, write to us at support@autalo.com and we will help you find the right contact.

The booking partner's terms

Localrent is operated by Renot Software OÜ, Kadaka tee 137-65, Tallinn, Estonia (registration number 12352497). Its full rental terms for each country are on its website, for example the terms for Georgia, and its privacy policy covers the data you enter in the booking form.

How Autalo makes money

Autalo is free for travellers. When you book a car through the search on our pages, the booking partner may pay us a commission. It doesn't decide which cars we show or how we describe them. See our terms of use and privacy and cookies policy.
