Car rental prices in Turkey: compare the whole booking
Enter your collection point and dates to see what your trip costs. Compare like with like: the same rental period, return place and equipment. A quote for Antalya does not price a collection in Istanbul.
Keep the booking total beside the costs that may be settled separately: delivery, a different return location, a child seat or an additional driver. The offer lists which are included. For a route with several stops, the mileage allowance matters too; it belongs to the selected offer, not to the country headline.
Deposit and payment: what to confirm before collection
A deposit and the rental payment are separate parts of the hand-over. The offer states the amount of the security, how it is taken and how it is released. If a card is required, the offer names the accepted type and whose name it must carry. Card payment and the deposit are separate questions.
For a no-deposit booking, apply the filter to your actual location and dates, then read the insurance terms as well. At collection, keep the vehicle inspection and any payment confirmation with the agreement. The supplier, not an assumed deadline, decides when a deposit is released.
Insurance, excess and permitted roads
Read the cover and the excess together. The excess describes a possible cost under the policy; the exclusions tell you when that cover does not apply. Tyres, glass and the underside of the car can be excluded, and optional protection is listed in the offer.
The rental terms restrict driving to paved public roads. If the approach to your accommodation is unpaved, arrange another way to cover that stretch. Additional insurance does not remove this restriction.
Where to start your road trip in Turkey
Antalya, Alanya or Side? Start by finding your accommodation on the map. All appear in the pick-up list, as do Belek and Kemer. Choosing a location is only the beginning: the agreed hand-over address still matters. An offer either includes collection at that address or uses a separate delivery arrangement.
Dalaman, Fethiye and Bodrum give you another group of places to compare for a coastal trip. If your flight and hotel are in different places, put the actual collection point into the search.
Istanbul and Izmir are also in the catalogue. Separate the days you want a car from the days you plan to spend on foot in the city; then arrange collection around the driving part of the trip. For a route around Kayseri, Nevsehir, Goreme or Avanos, compare those named locations rather than choosing a coastal pick-up by habit.
The city table lets you compare availability, starting prices and conditions without leaving the country page. Across 332 locations with enough cars for comparison, Antalya has 1,485 listed cars.
Driving between cities and returning the car
Write down the journey in order: where you collect, where you sleep and where you return the car. An Antalya–Side–Alanya trip and an Izmir–Bodrum–Dalaman trip need different collection arrangements. A flight home from another city changes the return, too. Search with both locations before treating the route as settled.
A different return city is a request to check, not a service promised by every listing. The supplier must accept your exact route, and the total includes any one-way charge.
For long driving days, the mileage allowance, the charge for exceeding it and the fuel-return policy are in the selected offer. Leave the final leg of the drive separate from the hand-over time. Navigation estimates do not include a fuel stop, finding the agreed meeting point or the vehicle inspection.
Keep the supplier's contact and the collection and return instructions together. At an airport, the named airport and meeting point matter, not the city name. Hotel delivery, late collection and an airport hand-over need their own confirmation; none is automatically free.
Road-trip ideas: coast, cities or inland stops
Build the trip around places you actually want to stop, rather than a list of rental locations.
- Antalya, Kemer, Side and Alanya: choose the stops that fit your stay, then decide whether to return to the original pick-up or request another return location. Keep the accommodation address alongside each overnight stop.
- Izmir, Bodrum, Dalaman and Fethiye: compare the collection and return at both ends before booking flights around a one-way rental. If you stay in one place, a return to the same base is another plan to price.
- Kayseri, Nevsehir, Goreme and Avanos: put each planned stop on the map, including the access to your accommodation.
- Istanbul and Bursa: decide which nights belong to the city stay and which belong to the drive.
Keep the drive on paved public roads; an SUV label does not lift that restriction.
Seasons, mountain roads and choosing a car
The weather at a coastal hotel does not tell you the conditions on an inland road. Higher ground can have its own road notices. If snow or ice is forecast, suitable tyres and any chains come from the supplier; a vehicle photograph does not show the equipment.
In warm weather, air conditioning and room for luggage are in the actual car description. For a family trip, look at the boot as well as the passenger seats. A vehicle category is a starting point for comparison, not proof that your bags and a child seat fit together.
Gearbox preferences can also change where you collect. The city comparison shows automatic cars making up 62–83% of listings across the places compared. Filter for the gearbox you want and open the offer before booking.
On a mountain or rural route, surface, access and rental restrictions decide the vehicle. Four-wheel drive cannot replace suitable equipment or permission for the road.
Driving in Turkey: rules, documents and tolls
Turkey drives on the right. Before leaving the collection point, find the lights, set your navigation and keep the supplier’s contact with the agreement.
- Licence: requirements depend on where it was issued. German licences are recognised for tourist stays; UK holders need the appropriate international permit or a notarised Turkish translation. Check the German travel guidance or UK driving guidance as applicable, and confirm the supplier’s document requirements before booking.
- Seat belts and children: the driver and passengers must wear seat belts. Arrange a suitable child seat before collection.
- Speed and attention: follow the posted limits and lane signs. Set the phone aside while driving and stop safely if you need to change the route.
- Alcohol: leave the driving to someone who has not been drinking; do not work out the journey around a guessed legal limit.
- Tolls: HGS handles electronic toll collection on Turkish motorways and bridges. The car’s toll account is settled by the supplier, sometimes with a handling fee.
- Road conditions: inland and mountain roads can have current notices. A coastal forecast is not a forecast for the whole route.
The highway authority’s HGS information explains the toll system. Keep parking receipts; the supplier itemises road charges when settling the rental.
Can you take a Turkish rental car across a border?
No. The current booking terms for Turkey prohibit taking the rental car across national borders. A return in another Turkish city is a separate arrangement; it does not authorise a trip abroad.
Plan to hand the car back within Turkey. If your holiday continues in another country, the onward journey is a separate booking with that destination’s own entry requirements.
Car rental in Turkey: FAQ
Booking & payment
Can I return the car in another city?
Enter the desired collection and return locations in the search; the supplier decides the arrangement. A one-way charge can apply.
Can I collect a car at an airport or hotel?
Your offer gives the specific airport or hotel address, meeting point, time and any delivery charge.
Can I drive the rental car outside Turkey?
No. The current booking terms prohibit cross-border travel with the rental car. Return it within Turkey and arrange the onward journey separately; a one-way return between Turkish cities does not authorise a border crossing.
Can I add a child seat or another driver?
The extras of the car you select include a child seat or an additional driver where the supplier offers them. Review the fee and driver requirements.
How do I check mileage and fuel conditions?
Read the offer for the included mileage, excess-mileage charge and fuel-return rule. Match the allowance to the whole route, including the return drive. Photograph the fuel level and the vehicle condition together with the supplier at collection and return.
Can I pay in cash or with a debit card?
Across the 332 locations with enough cars to compare, 93–100% of listed cars accept cash at collection and 24–100% accept card payment. Card payment does not by itself confirm that your particular debit card is accepted for the deposit. Check the payment and deposit methods of the selected offer.
Can I rent a car in Turkey without a deposit?
There are no-deposit listings: their share ranges from 19% in Ordu to 61% in Konakli across the 332 locations with enough cars to compare. Use the no-deposit filter for your own collection point and dates. A car without a deposit can still have an insurance excess.
What is the difference between a deposit and an insurance excess?
The deposit is the security specified in the rental terms; the excess is your potential liability under the insurance conditions. The offer shows both, with exclusions and any optional cover. Damage liability applies with or without a deposit, and a prohibited road stays prohibited with additional cover.
Prices
How much does car rental in Turkey cost?
On , the saved country search starts at $16.85 a day. The current search for your own dates gives the rental total. Compare that total with the deposit, insurance excess, mileage and any delivery or return charge.
Other questions
Which pick-up city should I choose in Turkey?
Match collection to the route: compare Antalya, Side and Alanya for those stops; Izmir, Bodrum, Dalaman and Fethiye for a trip through those places; Kayseri and Nevsehir for an inland start. Istanbul is also listed. The exact hand-over point matters, not just the city name.
When should I plan a road trip in Turkey?
Choose the dates around your actual route. Compare current quotes for the dates you are considering, keeping the same collection point and rental conditions.
Do I need four-wheel drive for my route?
Choose the car for the permitted route, current conditions and luggage. The rental terms allow paved public roads only. Do not assume that an SUV has four-wheel drive or that it can be taken onto an unpaved track.
Do I need an International Driving Permit in Turkey?
It depends on the issuing country. German licences are recognised for tourist stays; UK guidance requires the appropriate international permit or a notarised Turkish translation. Check the official guidance linked in the driving section for your documents, then confirm the supplier’s requirements. Carry the original licence.
